Privacy notice

What this site knows, in plain language.

Almost nothing. There is no advertising on these pages, no third-party tracking, and no commerce of any kind, including any sale of photographs.

Last updated: 2 May 2026.

Who I am

The Western Frame is the personal photographic journal of Layla Sayed, a photographer based between Cairo and Siwa. The site is hosted at egg-museum.lat. There is no parent organisation, no commercial sponsor, and no investor.

For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) I am the data controller. For the purposes of Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020 and its executive regulations I am also the data controller, and I process personal data only on the lawful bases listed below.

What this site collects

  1. Server logs. The web server records the IP address, the date and time of the request, the URL requested, the referrer, and the user agent string. Logs are kept for thirty (30) days, used solely to diagnose technical problems and detect abuse. The lawful basis is legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 2 of Law 151/2020).
  2. Letters and form messages. If you write to me, your message and email address are kept for as long as the conversation is open, and for up to twelve (12) months afterwards. The lawful basis is your consent and my legitimate interest in replying.
  3. No tracking cookies. The site sets at most one purely technical cookie, only to remember whether you have dismissed a notice. No advertising cookie, no third-party analytics, no fingerprinting.

What this site does not do

  • It does not run advertising.
  • It does not sell, rent, or otherwise transfer personal data.
  • It does not embed Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or any comparable third-party tracker.
  • It does not profile readers or build advertising audiences.
  • It does not transfer personal data outside Egypt or the EEA except as needed to deliver email replies through ordinary email infrastructure.
  • It does not sell photographs through this journal. Print enquiries are referred to the representing gallery, and any data handling for that route falls under the gallery's own privacy policy.

Fonts and embedded resources

The site loads two typefaces — Bodoni Moda and Spectral — from Google Fonts. When a font file is requested, Google may receive your IP address as part of the request. I do not receive that information myself. Browser settings can disable third-party requests, and the site will fall back to a system serif.

Your rights

Under GDPR and the Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data I hold about you (right of access).
  • Ask me to correct inaccurate personal data (rectification).
  • Ask me to delete personal data I no longer need (erasure).
  • Object to processing on the basis of legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis.
  • Lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority — the Personal Data Protection Center (المركز المصري لحماية البيانات الشخصية) in Egypt, or, in the EU, your national data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, please write to [email protected]. I aim to reply within thirty (30) days.

Children

The site is intended for general adult readers. I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under sixteen (16). If you believe a child has sent me a message, please write — I will delete it.

Changes

If this notice changes, I will update the date at the top and keep the previous version on file for at least one year. Material changes will be flagged on the home page for thirty days.

Questions, complaints, requests: [email protected].
